This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect when you use Tasteit, how we use it, and what rights you have.

2. What Data We Collect
When you create an account:
- Email address
- Encrypted password (we never see your password in plain text)
In your profile:
- Username
- Profile bio, if you provide one
- Profile picture, if you upload one
When using the app:
- Recipes you create (title, description, ingredients, preparation steps, categories)
- Images you upload
- Likes you give
- Comments and replies you write
- Follow relationships (who you follow, who follows you)
- Reports you submit about content
- Technical usage data (e.g. account creation time, timestamps of actions)
- Device advertising identifier (only if you grant tracking permission when prompted), used to measure and optimize our advertising
We do not collect location data, contact lists, or payment information (as the app currently has no paid features).
3. Purposes of Data Processing
We process your data to:
- create and manage your account
- provide the app's core features (sharing recipes, following, commenting, liking)
- automatically analyze uploaded recipe images using artificial intelligence to estimate nutritional information
- review reported content and moderate violations
- operate, secure, and improve the app
- measure and optimize our advertising campaigns, where you have granted tracking permission
4. Legal Basis
Processing is based on your consent given at registration (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and on the performance of the user agreement (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), where applicable. Where we use your device's advertising identifier for tracking purposes, this is based on the separate consent you provide via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
5. Processors and Recipients
To operate Tasteit, we use the following service providers, who process data on our behalf:
- Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) – processes account data, profile data, and content
- Anthropic (AI image analysis) – processes uploaded recipe images to estimate nutritional information
- Cloudinary (image optimization and storage) – processes uploaded images
- Resend (email delivery) – processes email addresses to send system notifications
- Meta (Facebook) – with your permission, processes your device's advertising identifier and app usage events (such as account creation, recipe activity, and searches) for advertising measurement and campaign optimization
We have appropriate data processing agreements in place with these providers. Data may be transferred outside your country of residence as part of using these services; in such cases, we ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses) are in place.
5a. Advertising and Tracking
When you first open the app, you may be asked, via Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework, whether you allow Tasteit to track your activity for advertising purposes. If you grant this permission, we use your device's advertising identifier, together with app usage events (such as account creation, recipe activity, likes, and searches), to measure and improve the performance of our advertising campaigns through Meta.
You can change your decision at any time in your device's Settings under Privacy & Security → Tracking. If you do not grant permission, or later withdraw it, we do not collect your device's advertising identifier, and our advertising measurement relies only on aggregated, privacy-preserving methods.
6. Retention Period
We retain your data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be deleted within 30 days, unless we are required by law to retain it longer. Content that other users have already saved, shared, or commented on may remain to a limited extent.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- access the data we hold about you
- correct inaccurate data
- request deletion of your data
- restrict processing
- data portability
- object to processing
- lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

8. Data Security
We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse, including encryption in transit and access restrictions on our systems.
9. Children
Tasteit is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from individuals under this age.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes within the app.

Terms of Use

Welcome to Tasteit! These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the Tasteit app (the "Service").
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account and using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.
2. Age Requirement
You must be at least 13 years old to create a Tasteit account. By registering, you confirm that you meet this minimum age.
3. Your Account
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential. All activity that occurs through your account is deemed to be carried out by you, unless you notify us of unauthorized use.
4. Your Content
You retain all rights to the recipes, images, comments, and other content you upload to Tasteit ("your content"). By uploading content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, distribute, and process this content within the Service (including automated analysis by artificial intelligence to estimate nutritional information).
You represent that you hold the necessary rights to all content you upload and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party.
5. Conduct Rules
When using Tasteit, you agree not to post content that:
- is unrelated to food, recipes, or cooking
- is offensive, discriminatory, glorifies violence, or is harassing
- violates applicable law
- infringes the intellectual property rights of third parties
- constitutes spam or misleading information
6. Moderation
We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms without prior notice. Users can flag inappropriate content for review using the built-in report feature. We aim to review reports in a timely manner but cannot guarantee a specific response time.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Content that violates these Terms, and users who engage in abusive, harassing, or threatening behavior, will be removed or suspended from the Service. In addition to reporting content, users can block other users directly within the app; blocking a user hides their content and prevents further interaction between the two accounts.
7. Automated Content Analysis
Images you upload are automatically analyzed by an AI system, among other things to estimate nutritional information and detect content that does not comply with our guidelines. This automated assessment is not error-free and does not replace human review.
8. Tasteit's Intellectual Property
The name, logo, and design of Tasteit are our intellectual property. You may not use them without our express consent.
9. Disclaimer
Tasteit is provided "as is." Nutritional information displayed by the app is an AI-estimated approximation and does not constitute medical, nutritional, or health advice. Consult a qualified professional for health-related questions.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the Service.
11. Account Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or delete your account for violations of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time through the app settings. After account deletion, your content and personal data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, though content already viewed, saved, or shared by other users may remain to a limited extent.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via an in-app notice. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, excluding its conflict of law rules.
